What are Easement Credits?

The New Mexico Land Conservation tax credit is a powerful tool for protecting our state’s most precious resources. The New Mexico conservation community is committed to maintaining the best practices and the highest standards to provide the greatest opportunity to earn and transfer credits.

This is important because lack of high program standards has led to instances where credits have not been transferable in other states.

In order to avoid such problems here, several New Mexico land trusts have taken a leadership role in establishing the New Mexico Credit Cooperative.

The Cooperative is a joint-effort among New Mexico land trusts and highly experienced land conservation and tax-credit professionals, Strugar Conservation Services (SCS).

New Mexico land trusts and SCS work together in a seamless relationship to provide the highest level of education and technical support to easement donors wishing to earn and transfer their credits. The Cooperative provides a safe, reliable and responsible mechanism for selling credits a in a manner approved by prominent New Mexico land trusts.
